Seya! Seya!

Heavy... but we still are going to dance:

And our festival hairstyles may not be as fancy as in other places, but we're cool anyway, dammit!

Ambitious mikoshi carriers

They were actually jumping with this thing on their shoulders!

You can see it better on video - the singing and jumping up are towards the end:

Girls leading the mikoshi procession:

And here's a video (well, one of them) of the procession:

We explained about the tekomai girls (in great detail) here.

There were mikoshi at Rei Taisai too

Rei taisai is the proper name of the event (the one with yabusame and sword waving) we witnessed last Sunday.

Top of the men's mikoshi:

Girls waving big knives

or rather, swords.

At Nakamura shrine yesterday:

I remember her from last year's event.

But this girl was new:

And here they are on video:

Thieving issue solved

The person thieving got his face broken (as promised), so here is a random photo instead:

Yabusame at Nakamura Hachimangu in Moka

Sorry, no family album Sunday today.
We went to a festival at the Nakamura Shrine in Moka. There was yabusame (traditional archery on horseback), here are some pictures.

Praying before the event

Yep, there was a girl riding and shooting.

And her skill has visibly improved since last year.

But still, she wasn't as good as this guy:
He was amazing.

He ruled the event.

There was also another guy, but trust me, not worth showing here. Judging by his thick glasses and the fact he missed the target EVERY time, he was either blind, or... blind, I guess.

Fireworks at Romantic Mura

That was last Saturday.

I apologize for not posting anything yesterday. I normally do it rain or shine, Ramadan or Rosh Hashanah, but this time, I have an extra special excuse.

Are you familiar with the Life in a Day film project? I submitted footage for it, it was shortlisted for the movie and now I am in legal release hell. So, until I complete all the film-related paperwork, my blog posts might be irregular.

In the meantime, here are the fireworks:

And for some reason, mister shot all of them out of focus. boo...

And in case you're wondering, there is absolutely nothing romantic about "Romantic Village".

But hey, who needs romantic if you can have a sausage onna stick, right? And they had three different vendors selling them last Saturday! CMOT Dibbler would be proud.

Sunflowers in Mashiko

This was taken with an infra-red customized ancient Olympus camera. But because I couldn't stand the creepy look of the original image, I made it somewhat black-and-whiteish.

Scarecrows

in a field in Mashiko

Even a scarecrow has to be properly dressed around here. In a kimono no less ;-)

This one is a lot more down-to-earth.

Fire in Utsunomiya

Today at around 11:30AM nearby Miyanohara Junior High School. And yes, we just happened to be nearby. Sadly, no video :(

Hmmm... something's going on. Let's check it out.

We were not the only ones who went to see what was going on.

Utsunomiya's bravest were already at the scene.

Doing what firemen do best.

And that was the excitement for the morning.

Rice harvest

Today I'm rather busy, so all you're getting is a video.
Yep, it's time to harvest rice.
