From the Family Album - part 1
Taken in Nikko in the early 1960s.
We found these old negatives and are busy scanning them. And Every Sunday we'll show you images of "old" Japan. We hope you'll enjoy these glimpses of the past.
This looks like the Yayoi Festival.
As far as we can tell these are just random kids, not our relatives.
This is a Monochrome Weekend entry. To view more black and white photos visit the Monochrome Blog.

Chuzenji Kannon-ko and Jizo Nagashi
Buddhist rituals that took place on June 18th in Chuzenji (Nikko).
Monks leaving Godaido Hall at Chuzenji Temple.
Godaido Hall
Throwing Jizo papers into the lake (Jizo Nagashi). Mount Nantai in the background. The guy in black with a small Nikon is a reporter from the local paper - Shimotsuke Shimbun. Needless to say, Dr. Trouble (who took this picture) ended up in his photos and in the newspaper. LOL!
Chuzenji temple as seen from the lake.

Carp, crap, whatever
I hate those little f*ckers anyway:
And this one's blowing bubbles, no less.

Public phones
Didn't know anyone still used them. But I guess if you don't want your wife to find out, you kind of have to.

Definitely not a sleeping cat
After a photo of my son last weekend, now it's time for a picture of my daughter.
So, here she is, in one of her usual moods:

Mina Hayashi at Heike Taisai in Nikko
Yes, that's Miss Nippon 2010, with all the poise and personality of a bunraku puppet.
And yes, she's wearing a wig.
And here she is modeling some Heian era fashion.
To learn more about Heike Taisai, please read this post on our other blog.
