It's our tradition here on Tochigi Daily Photo to bring you the best in matsuri hairstyles. And where can you find the best matsuri hairstyles in Tochigi? In Kanuma, of course!
Here are the highlights (in more ways than one) from last Sunday.
fake feathers -
real feathers -
just feathers -
keeping the hairspray industry in business -
and let's not forget about haircolor -
and pretty sprinkles and other whachumacallits -
Brace yourself, this is only part 1.
Ahhhh... I'm so proud to be a Tochigan :)
And we wrote about the festival here.

My days were numbered when I was there in 1953 to 1956. But hairstyles were not much. People, the women, washed their hair in a basin and flipped it back to dry. I never saw anything more exotic than the styles worn by the Geisha. These styles are extraordinary.
Please, if you have time, come to see my blog about Sendai-shi between 1953-1956.
Sendai-shi
Amazing! especially the whachumacallits:)))
Got gel?
Oakland,
Yeah, Got Gel is about right :)
Joanne,
I was thinking to get me a funky matsuri hairstyle too, but then decided against it.
Abraham,
Sendai? That's an odd place for a westerner to be in the 50s! Let me check out your blog :)
